Things to do in Hong Kong for a day...

I'm off on a work trip next week with a view to have some free time on the last day (saturday) i fly out (late departure).

i've been told that HK is good for mountain biking.
Has anyone done this before? some pointers would be nice - would love to get a chance at doing something i love out in somewhere like HK!

also, if anyone knows of anything else worth doing in a day while i'm there, i'm all for alternatives

has to be do-able in a day with time to get back to the airport for my flight!

On one of the days I was there, I did a trip to Lantau Island, there's a mahoosive cable car ride, you get to go to some Buddhist temples, and see the giant bronze buddha. Think that was half a day - but took a good few hours, really. Got to see quite a bit, and various parts of the culture, plus there was a bit of time in one of the fishing villages.

Didn't have a bike with me, though, so can't comment on any cycling or paths there.

There's various places people will rave about - Causeway bay, other areas for either eating or shopping - but neither, really, are big interests for me, personally. HK always seemed very busy, but really seems to come alive at night. I didn't see much of Kowloon, though, I stayed on Hong Kong Island.

Go to Victoria peak on Hong kong island and get a great view of the city. Or visit flying ball bicycle shop in Kowloon: http://www.flyingball.com/ they might also have some sugestions on where to ride/hire.

sweet. although i cocked up and im not actually here on saturday at all! i have the morning of the friday. currently in Guangzhou, which is actually a pretty beuatiful place at night. just took a 4mile stroll around. buildings are absolutely massive. Vegas Casino like

Gz was where I was largely based, when I was in China. It's huge, it just keeps going and going.

Go up Canton tower, and see the funky piano in the foyer.

pretty humid eh for riding? especially if no time to adjust!

I'm in shenzen now for the night. Back to hk tomorrow evening. I actually really like guangzhou. Id be tempted to come back and stay again. Hotel was much nicer too. Although I'm sure there are some nicer places in Hong Kong too. Guangzhou does just keep going. I can see why so many people had the electric bicycles - and the driving here is awful, i wouldn't last long on my bike here at all!
on the whole though, i like china, and i like hk. Definitely worth more ventures in the future. Not looking forward to the flight home.

Ocean Park is a good day out.
The Buddhist Temple near Hollywood Plaza is very peaceful and the gardens and large fish are amazing.
If you have longer then you can get a ferry to Macau which is very different to China.

There's a formula 1 / grand prix / motorsport musuem in Macau, too.

About an hour-ish from Guangzhou (Conghua) there's a hot spring spa that's very nice and tranquil.

How've you found the food in China? Tends to be quite different from the western perception of Chinese food (well at least that which we see over here).

I loved China, I enjoyed Hong Kong, too - but I think everybody hypes up Hong Kong, rightly so, in a way - it is very tourist-y, but I enjoyed China in something of a different way, really.

Haven't actually been to Shenzhen, but my brother tells me there's that Russian ex-aircraft-carrier tourist attraction thing, there.

Do you take the train from Gz to HK?
