Retro Newbie
hello all my name is Ben Brown im 21 and live in Norton, Stockton On Tees, i have recently got given a retro bike, but i have no idea what bike it is and anything about it. Its my dads old bike he said it was amazing in its time and he used it in the world mountain bike championships in the north east years ago.

I am currently using the bike to commute to my new job, i don't know much about bikes but i am always ready to learn, i wish to one day ride further routes.

Can anyone tell me anything about this bike?

Yes, looks like a Saracen Hydrotech from the early 90's
All the catalogues are in the archive and there are some who know their Saracens really well.
That's back in a time when they where proper Saracens not just a badge slung on by an importer.

The fork are very nice of the Tange Switchblade or similar type

Magura Hydraulic brakes is a good touch and top end brakes for their day.
Looks like DX/XT mix of components on there. (top stuff at the time)
and a good finishing touch of some Onza bar ends.

Perfect retrobike.

Better pictures of part will get more detail

Its a 1992 Saracen Conquest, pretty rare now as they were notorious for cracking like many early aluminium bikes unfortunately.

It must have been repainted at some point and the stem looks rather like an early 90's GT one?

Lovely bike though, look after it ;)

I beg to differ Chris.

I'm pretty sure it's a 1991 Saracen Trekker Competition Hydrotech complete with it's original stem and forks.

Rare to see one with those forks which were Saracen branded Tange Switchblades.

I have a the frame for one of these, complete with original decals, but I don't have the forks.

Hello and welcome to Ben Brown by the way...

My apologies your quite right as usual Paul

I thought for some reason that they only made the box section 7005 bikes that one year only.

Pop into the NE rides section Ben and see if there are any rides you fancy joining, there's a lot of people would love to see that bike myself included.
