Retro Guru
got this for 27 euros including delivery
drive side chain stay has bad rash, and there's s few more marks here and there
argento vivo Hard Touch paint, is the hard touch hard to replicate?
may just clean up and respray rear triangle me self, and use as my serious off roadie, the other two are basically brand show ponies, this one has linage to Gary Fisher, and is legitimately an mtb frame set
was thinking of deore xt for this one, rear stay and forks are curious
the right honorable Mombat says these were only made for one year
Columbus cyber tubing, 1 1/8 headtube with un threaded steering tube

Re: Cheap find, Cinelli Argento Vivo

I cleaned the rash up, now naked steel, and there are numerous other marks on the frame.
I will find out if I can replicate decals, and maybe powder coat the frame (gunmetaL grey) as I can get it done cheaply, and it would be hard 'touch' compared to most resto paint jobs
then I could go on it and not worry if I fell down or hit a tree about the paint i think
forks are strange, i've found no other images of argento vivio's with the hip like curve
also
in negotiations re a used Italian mtb gruppo to put on it,
again, one i wouldn't have to worry about scratching

Re: Cheap find, Cinelli Argento Vivo

I think this will build up into a cool bike, especially with an Italian gruppo!

Re: Cheap find, Cinelli Argento Vivo

You seem to be getting a bit of a taste for mtb's.

Excellent

May I suggest a silver / black build, I just did this with my Dave Lloyd and I'm very pleased with the results.

Re: Cheap find, Cinelli Argento Vivo

Hey Niel, How you doing mate?
well, I do like silver, and would leave it near original colour,
I though with gun metal, decals replicated as is, and predominately black components it could be a stealth bohemoth,
is it a crime to powder coat if intending to really use it?
some of the modern paint refurbs are a lot less mark resistant the the original

I'm good thanks.

As far as I'm concerned, it's your bike, so you can build it the way you choose, I know I always do.

Powder coat: I always feel that a hand made or high quality frame deserves good paint, although, there are some matsers of the art of powder coating, so I guess a lot depends on who does the work.

Here's my example of silver and black; a mix of new running gear and age related parts. It rides like a dream.

Re: Cheap find, Cinelli Argento Vivo

that's a fine piece there Squire,
The jury's gone back out now on the colour scheme choice
the original is textured, I dont think it would be too expensive doing it in the original silver, but the rub would be losing the "hard touch'' effect.
I know a couple of good painters, so I'll enquire, I think a decent powder coat job should be no more than 100 euros, the frame cost 27 posted, and I'll try to see if I can get the decals replicated for under 75.
If seen argentovivos in decent nick listed an 250 -300, so i really wouldn't want to be going over that refurbing this

Re: Cheap find, Cinelli Argento Vivo

I just sent an email to my usual refurbishers for a quote re respray and decals, I cleaned the chain stays up, and here's some pics of the unusual rear triangle and bridge
