23 pounds was the weight Tom Ritchey said he was able to reach on a production steel mountain bike back in 1988.

He thought steel was still valid even for MTB racing, so after getting the weight goal using an own spec tubeset (Ritchey Logic - Tange Prestige) and components and to prove this bike was reliable he decided to let his team race on it in 1989.

It turned to be even better than expected, as Don Myrah won the NORBA 1989 World Championship using a P-23 FB, among other team wins that year.

Next year the P-23 was available in two different versions, a complete fillet-brazed frame bike, named P-23 Team and a fillet-brazed and TIG welded frame bike, the P-23.

This is what I'm presenting today, I have been so lucky to get a VGC P-23 in my size.

First of all, this project aim has never been to build a period-correct bike, but a well balanced and usable bike.

Hope you like it!

How does it ride?
It feels light and fast, and more rigid than my other bikes, i.e. my Explosif 95 with P2 feels more comfortable.

4.03005 lbs or 1.828 kg with both headset races and bolts installed.
