Ally O Resto She Lives! Pics on Page 6...

Looking forward to seeing this rebuilt - I miss mine now.... :D

I tried it rigid and with RC35's and actually preferred it rigid.

Re: Ally O Resto first attempts

So its been a while, and progress has been slow. The ensuite is coming along nicely, on the upside.
I wasjust about to take the frame to the powder coaters and thought, hold on a tic, the point of this is to try and restore the bike, shouldnt I give the painting a bash myself? Anyone got any thoughts? I do have a compressor and a suitable workshed space, how hard can it be?

Re: Ally O Resto first attempts

I'm looking forward to see how this goes especially if your planing on doing the painting and "How Hard Can It Be ? " , Well without a draught and dust free area and reasonably ventilated then "Very Hard" if you want a good smooth finish and you'll probably find that ten coats of primer and top coat will give great results if your using a fine spray other than that half should do with light sanding in between coats of paint which will probably require 1100 grit wet and dry paper and you should need about 4 different grades of wet and dry to rub down the original paint ..

Re: Ally O Resto first attempts

Ok, well, in order to help me decide, ive spent the evening stripping an old steel frame, to see how much trohble it is, one tin of bnq paint reomver , one wire brush, and one drill with wire spjnny head. So far so good, will wait to see how smooth I can get the finish before going down the same route with the orange. All good research!

Re: Ally O Resto first attempts

If you were going to powder coat it anyway what have you got to lose bar a few quid? Do your best and be proud you did it? Crack on and show us

Note to self, remove stickers first, prior to applying grants vodka :)

Re: Ally O Resto first attempts

Sweet. Do it matt silver like your old one. Your memory of that bike is the reason you got this after all. ;)
