I remember seeing this for sale at a DH race here in Australia in 1997. The story then as now was that it was purchased in a clearing sale at the 1996 Cairns World Championships. In 1997 it had already been broken, welded and gusseted. I passed because it was an old and broken frame then.

I heard a similar story when I was in Cairns in 97, that it wasn't nico's winning bike but a team bike.
In 2001 a guy in Canberra had the same bike for sale with DHO's and amazingly the same twin innertube Michelin wheel set (you may remember pics of these wheels in amb) that Nico ran at the worlds.
It's just down the road from me so may have a look. I guess this would have a name instead of a serial number being a team bike.
There were a few of these in oz bitd mind you

I remember the gussets and welds on this pretty vividly, it was unpainted but repaired when I first saw it (this was parked with a for sale sign at a Narbethong VCI DH series round, and it had little if anything trick on it at that point).
