MOTOR CHAT

Hi guys
I'm looking for a new motor for my VW T3 van after finding the old one is no more.
Its currently a 1.7 deisel and I am looking for a VW AAZ deisel motor. I need a 1.9 TDI from a early/mid 90's Passat, Vento, Golf etc.
It needs to be a mechanical injection model without the ECU stuff the later ones came with.
If any one knows of one or of a cheap car with one in it I would be grateful to hear. Its a real pain hunting one from up here so thought I'd put it out as you never know.
Car looks pretty awesome Mark, I'm sure it'll be brilliant in the winter. Though if the snows really bad you know you'll be spending all your time pulling stuck cars out. As above, I like the colour, though not sure about the front number plate placement ;)

There used to be a couple of decent breakers on the Longman Estate in Inverness - going back a few years though.

Mind you when I got a replacement motor sent up from London for my old Volvo it only cost about £250 including carriage so might still be worth asking around the nationals. Even if you are in Caithness

Have asked my source in Halkirk to keep his eyes peeled too ;)

Cheers Jamie :) , pulling stuck cars out ?, Na, i'll be sailing buy laughing at them

I'll have a word with Ewan my neighbour (Owner of Paisley Car Breakers) if he has'nt got an engine in he'll keep an eye out, there is also a VW specialist next door to his yard, he'll ask him for you ;)

You know if it was mine i'd just bang a Subaru motor up it's chuff

The big BMW failed its MOT pretty spectacularly yesterday :( , surprised as i keep on top of my cars (used to be an MOT tester myself) and really dont do big miles, did the work that was "advised" last year, car has barely done 3000 miles since, failed heavily on the emissions, if it was slight it may have been the performance air filter i've fitted but it's more likeley to be the Catalytic converter which is about half the expensive exhaust, also failed on rear suspension bushes, the outer ones on the lower A arm, these are awkward as a special tool is needed to get them out

Bit of a set back as i planned on getting the beemer back in action this week to then take the Disco off the road and do some work to it before it's MOT next month, insured it Monday, MOT Wednesday (was the plan anyway) then Tax it at the end of the Month, it's all up in the air now.

Will probably beast into the Disco to get that done then just save up to stick the beemer into Weavers to let them do the work to that.

Friggin cars, gonna scrap the lot and go to Arnold Clark for a Toyota Aygo like normal people

Me too - dropped over 2 grand on "basic repairs" alone this year :|

Jamie,

Can't remember if I told you about this guy before, he seems to have spares, might know of an AAZ engine that's available
http://www.wagonbuild.com/who_are_we.html
but he was helpful when we were looking for an exhaust for Lorna's T25 water-boxer last year.
Eventually I found one on eBay cheaper so didn't end up dealing with him.
He's in Inveraray but will deliver.

I'm sure he also had a write up/pics of putting the engine from the Japanese? car that's being crushed in a couple of the flickr photies. The sump in the pics isnae on a boxer engine.

Er, you live on the edge of Scotland just like him :p , so do you know the guy?

Only in the sense I pass his gaff a few times a week and I got him to come over and look at my T2 with regard to restoration work. However that's now gonna get trailered to Dave Mylett in south Glasgow, as Pete wanted to concentrate solely on T25s.

We also often stand together at Tesco's beer aisle :D
