Search for some rubber gear lever covers.

Rear brake cable routing is knob on by the way.

You had me swearing there until i realised that 'knob on' meant it was right, thanks - again i lost some hair pondering and trying a few options. I still have 2m of spare outer, in case i decide to re-think the routing again!!

I think i have some Suntour covers in a box but they are a bit worn. She can wear gloves!!

I'm not talking about safety for her hands you plank! I'm thinking if she goes forward and the gear levers jab at her :facepalm:

I was concerned about fingerprints on the levers!!!! Did you notice the computer - i was pleased with the placing as it avoided damage to the stem and removal of the bat tape.

My mouth hurts - i found the bit on the floor - about 3mm long and 2 mm wide - ouchy!

Yes I did spot the computer! I myself wouldn't have added this as your wife will crash the bike as she looks at it all the time.

She fell off it before it got wheels on!!!! Why worry about further accidents? As long as no one tells her i wrecked here wing mirror tonight with a wheelie bin, i should be safe enough - we all have wee accidents!!!

Apart from the previous bits and bobs which need sorted, this build is finished. For those who may be interested in a similar build be warned the costs spiral - and this is true of almost all builds.

I had planned a quick, cheapish build and that did not happen. Numerous hurdles were put in my way.
I suspect that there is no such thing as a quick build.

This build is not a normal retro one and i know decals do not make a bike but i am rather pleased with the results. To give an idea of costs -
Original bike - £45
Sandblasting - £15
Paint, lacquer and labour - £155 est.
Wheels - £20
Tyres - £44
Cables and outers - £12
Chain - £9
Levers - £13
Front Mech - £15
Rear mech - £25
Saddle - a gift from a friend but £80 on line (Thanks Arjan)
Decals - £32
Brakes - £40
Seat post - £15

The total is around £500 (too many number to add for me), but this does not include a number of other bits which i did not/could not use - including 9 BB axles, a set of wheels, tyres and tubes for 24'' OE rims. The point of this is that a change of plan will cost.

£500 quid! Like I say mate its not the cost but the enjoyment you got out of doing it all by yerself.

Dear God Richard... i hope the Rossin won't be as much of a hassle, as i keep saying to new to restoration guys, if its a straightforward strip,repaint and rebuild even with regular stuff its a great move to check any different kit for fit and routing before fitting after a nice refinish, when you change every damned thing it is imperative to have a dummy build.... then you mostly eliminate any diffs.... if you stay with the original plan..I'm hard to impress these days ... you did a superb job making a stunner out of the proverbial sows ear.. well done that man.. i know you learned from this experience.. will

A bit like me that is Will! When I'm building my model aircraft I check for fit, if it doesn't fit,
alter/skim/bang/cut/file until it does then I paint it, though I have some times completely forgot
and cocked up on a major build part :facepalm:
