retrograde

Dirt Disciple
My 18 year old Look, finally in for a 5 day restoration. Been in daily use for 18 years and deserves a new coat of paint and some new bits.

Triple butted cromo frame, circa 5 lbs bare, all brazed.

Mainly STX (replaced worn out Biospace gear years ago, and a set of Mavic 121 wheels).

Are you planning on replacing the graphics/decals?

If so, contact gil_m on here, as he can make you some exact replacements.

Are you keeping the spec the same?

Day 2

24 hours in and bike stripped down, copious quantities of paint remover and blast cleaned.

Colour will change from Silver to Black with a set of simplified graphics in White. Prefer this to the original, similar to other models of Look MTB's at the time.

Etch primed and base coat applied (Toyota Metallic Black) in 2 pack paint.

Now ready for Graphics. Computer cut paint stencils, air brush the paint.

A set of multi colour Logos will also be applied after the letters, will be a BIGGER paint Challenge, and then 2 coats of Clear Lacquer to finish it off .

Day 1.5

Graphics Completed. An hour or so with the the airbrush produced an acceptable result.

All I need now is for it to stop raining so I can apply the 2 coats of clear over the top!!!

Day 3

Well it finally stopped raining and out came the sun, so on went 2 coats of 2pk clear.

A Vinyl Chain Stay protector was made in Black Vinyl with the look logo just to finish off.

Most pleased with the quality of the finish.

24 hours elapsed to let the paint cure and harden and assembly has restarted.

There will be a gap now as I wait delivery of a new Brake Hanger, I need a bolt on one as there not sufficient space with the STX headset to use the old one, also still waiting delivery of a set of cables. At least it will give the paint more time to harden off!!! and a chance to service the front and rear mechs.
