I can fix it by switching to the sidebar profile as the box width is narrower to fit in the sidebar. When you remove the side bar the message box width gets wider hence when you double tap zoom on the iPhone the zoom is less to fit the width of the box on the screen. Hope that makes sense. Pretty sure before the update the box width was the same on sidebar and non-sidebar templates.
So the workaround for me is to use the sidebar template.
