This is a really weird one for me as I wouldn't venture onto grass without a helmet on, yet I very rarely wear one for around town, despite it probably being more dangerous. Before I go for a proper ride I have a whole load of pre-ride checks that I do and making sure I have my helmet and that it's properly adjusted is one of these. When I'm cycling round town I tend to just jump on my bike and go without a thought for my camelback, spare inner tubes etc. As far as finding one that fits, I also had the problem of not being able to wear one without it looking like I was some strange cycling East 17 tribute act. I eventually found one about six years ago and I bought three. I'm currently on the second after wrecking the first and I'm dreading the time that I move on to number three and can't get a replacement.

Glad to hear you have your headache problem on the records already. Now why didn't you get the Bell from Halfords?

Yes always, started wearing one when I was about 14, when I started getting into mountain biking, im normally pretty good, very rarely come off, but there is always the exception. Went off one day, was about 16 with my biker mates, just a few hundred yards down the road from my mum and dads house my mate (at the time) deceided to cut in front of me, he was on the road, I was on the path. I hit him doing about 20mph, went straight over the top, flew for literally 3 meters and landed on my head, with helmet on luckily on tarmac. I broke the helmet in two, right down the middle and had a headache for 3 days after. Im convinced the piece of polystyrene saved me. I now look at helmets as seatbelts, I wont ride in a car not wearing a seatbelt, anywhere. :roll: Shame, he was riding his dads Marin at the time and it bent the RST forks well out of shape, he then blamed it all on me! :facepalm: :roll:

didnt have one in stocl at the time and i cant be bothered trekking down there until im back at work on tuesday, helmet will get here before then hopefully.

Once had an off at a roundabout , didn't even know I'd hit my head on the flooor 'til I saw the crack inside the helmet . Out on a group road ride , the only rider not wearing a helmet hit a pot hole , crashed and it was a bad moment . I went in the ambulance with him to A&E , he is still not right now , it happened around '95 ! You have more to lose by not wearing one , than inconvenience of it not feeling comfortable . There will be one make that you find fits your head better than another . They all have plenty of adjustment , it's just the shell shape that varies . I find that Gits better than Specialised for instance . Cheaper online , find one in a shop that fits , remember the size , order online , simples . My giro was less than £60 and it's a good one .

Was very anti until :
A. Had a little one who I insisted must wear one.
B. Wanted to do some fun rides/races and they insist on a helmet.

Having got one that fits comfortably and looks pretty good (Fox Transition) I wear it most of the time (except short trips/pub).

Over 30 years of cycling and coming off bikes have never had an accident where a helmet would have done me any good. Suppose there's a first time.

+1 on the lycra-boy being a prick above. Luckily I am very large/heavy and no-one would try and knock me off in case I landed on them.

im 6ft5 and over 20 stone, he still reckons he could push me off lol

the fox transition does look pretty nice tbh
