Guessing Benedict Cumberbatch was not interested, maybe next time.

I thought he'd be good.

Jack Dee would be an excellent Doctor.

Julian Barratt too, or James Nesbitt.

Pierce Brosnan, Martin Freeman, Kelsey Grammer, Ted Danson, Mandy Patankin, Nigel Havers or William Petersen could all bring something new to it, especially for a US version.

Woman wise I could see Gillian Anderson doing a good turn, or Lucy Liu if they could get her.

Sigourney Weaver, Whoopi Goldberg or Susan Sarandon for the win too.

Re: Can't believe Malcolm Tucker has regenerated into Doctor

Benedict Cumberbatch is currently filming the third series of Sherlock (saw them filming on Bute Street in Cardiff last week and he was there along with Martin Freeman) - this could be a reason why he wasn't chosen for the role of the Doctor. It'd be a bit weird to see him playing a time-travelling, screwdriver-weilding weirdo at the same time as he pops up on screen playing Mr Holmes.

I would imagine he wants to try a few years knocking at major stardom before getting into something like Dr. Who as well. I don't think he would have taken it even if he was at a loose end.
