I plan of a bit a nostalgia trip by re-building my first three MTBs :) ...No.1 ....

Bought this bike in 1990 (iirc) and used it extensively up to 1993 when I got a KHS Montana Team and sold this bike to a mate for his wife to use. He's kindly 'donated' it back to me :D

This bike did many miles with me, mostly day rides in the Chilterns, but also trips to the Lake and Peak Districts

A few photos as it currently is....

Pretty sure it had a saddle fitted for her to use!

Dirt and cobwebs standard

The original Mk1 wad 'crud' catcher! (before mr crud came along I might add!)....made at work whilst I should have been doing other things! :D ....

Original front mech engrained with genuine Peak District dirt :)

An (expensive!) upgarde after the original Suntour died!...

Still has my original Smoke on it :D

....and the lightweight (made all the difference you know) Kingsberry bottle cage!

A few (bitd) 'action' shots :) ....

With the mate I sold it to (on his Peugeot) in the Lake District...

With a mate (who raced man V Horse V Bike etc) doing a summer Lake District route in the winter!...I was wrecked  ....

Trying to decide what to do with it now :? ...we shall see.

Cheers

Re: My First MTB - the actual one!

Bet it's nice being reunited with an old friend :)

I'd try marketing your design. Who wouldn't buy something called 'The Wad Catcher'

It is indeed, brought back memories looking over it :)

Maybe

Re: My First MTB - the actual one!

It looks like you both also had one of those early Giro helmets with a lycra cover just like I used to have. I only threw mine away a few years ago!

A good clean and polish to hang on the wall works for me. ;)

Agreed. It can look out over your other bikes with an air of "been there, done that" superiority.

Re: My First MTB - the actual one!

You never forget your first. Happy to see you got it back.

Re: My First MTB - the actual one!

Fantastic ! I wish I could get my hands on my original Rockhopper but I fear it went in a skip at some point after I sold the frame set to someone at the back end of the 80's.

Get it stipped, cleaned, polished and re build with love and tenderness.

Great story.

Re: My First MTB - the actual one! - quick update

Stripped down, awaiting cleaning and polishing then parts for rebuilding :) ....

I may see if I can get a a touch-up pen to match the yellow!

Cheers
