1991 Diamondback Axis (Finished Page 2)

I found the whole bike faultless to be honest Neil, gears need a little tweek but overall great.

It handles great, somehow or other I set a Strava personal record on on a steep and very rooty downhill segment despite having ridden it several times on front sus bikes :shock:

Brakes are excellent, easily as good as any V's I have (always had the knack for setting up cantis) I put brand new aztec pads in and they seem great.

The fork mounted hanger looks good in my opinion and I'm not sure I had enough stack height on the headset for a hanger there anywhere, this had a Tioga Avenger stem with internal cable routing, I have the stem but its scruffy and too long anyway.

I had one of these BITD. Would have one again if I had the room (and could find an 18" one).

Yup, agreed - nice build, looks in great condition, and with proper forks!

Thanks Neil, yeah I'm really pleased its held onto its original forks all these years.

I think the saddle will have to change though, its uncomfy as well as looking too modern.

I love my old school Ritchey Vector wing, comfy and vintage. Glad your enjoying the bike, diamondback's dont quite get the credit they deserve I feel.

My saddle has changed from when I first took some photos. That one was off my 95 Apex, after I'd swapped out the one that was running. Now my 91 Axis has a WTB saddle. That Bonty one was only ever really comfortable when I was putting in miles on a daily basis.

One other thing I found - having made a conscious decision to go with NOS Suntour stuff for the brakes - the stock pads on those Suntour cantis are bobbins.

I like your build, solid, utterly in keeping, and the bike looks like it could have been a photo from 20 years ago (in a good way).

Wonder if there's many of the green team frames in decent condition (with forks!) circulating...
