I have a stupid question: Is it safe to use a carbon aheadset cap and Ti bolt? If either were to snap, what would happen to the stem / steerer? Would I crach into a ditch in a fireball?

The cap is just to pre-tension before you bolt the stem up, I use a plastic cap with a ti bolt

As above...it will be fine, you are only compressing the headset but do not over-tighten

So I guess an alu bolt be safely used there, right?
