Places to ride near London...

London is making me a bit crazy. I miss fields for miles and mountains etc.

I'm looking for places of all types of riding that I can get to from North London without driving for hours. Looking for quiet places really and not bike parks or anything.

My favourite riding style is thrashing around like in Dirt the movie and I love the idea of different scenery.

I've heard of the Downs?

I've heard of Chicksands but I kind of like to get away from people when I ride.

Any suggestions welcome and any pics are great.

North East London - Epping Forest

Busy at the weekends but can be deserted mid week

South London - The North Downs

Round Leith Hill is good, can be busy at weekends but not as bad in my opinion.

If you can read a map the Countryside of Hertfordshire can be great, the area between Stevenage and Luton can be quite empty with lots of bridleways and byways. Same applies to the east of Stevenage/North of Hertford. You'll need to do some roadwork but no big hassle off the main roads.
