£6k to blow on a car - 700 miles a week use

All of the below would be a delight to do the sort of miles you're looking at, are well within budget & should do an equivalent of over 40mpg in terms of LPG VS diesel prices.

This has a Northstar engine that needs so little servicing it doesn't even need sparkplugs until 100,000 miles.

Lexus used to win the reliability surveys:

I want this for myself.

A close friend has a Skoda Fabia diesel - 1.9. Non turbo.

I've been in it, and while its not got that turbo blast its got plenty of pull. Nowt to go wrong, no dual mass thingys or turbos to blow. Well made and easy to fix and comfy for long distances. He gets 60mpg around twon, can get 70+mpg on motorway easily...

Reliability is something different than durability. How does a Caddy or Lexus hold up after two decades?

So are mud huts.

Can't see past a nice late model Merc or Beemer for this application. Class, comfort and cool.

Spending that much time in a vehicle is a fair chunk of life, you deserve a nice place to spend that time.
