Instead of resorting to caustic soda, I just bought another bike from a local retro biker. I'm just lazy I guess.
I got this Marin (pictures 1-2)
Fitted some parts I'd been saving
And now I have this Marin (pictures (3-4)

And yes, before you say anything, those grips were the only ones I had going spare....
