Specialized Shark Fin re-manufacture ?

here is what i'vs got done
measured from my 98 FSR

figured out how to get the pics posted LOL


would like to know the distance to the drilled hole from the dropout centre line, currently i'm working on 20mm but i think it could be more,
so as to fit the predrilled specializd stays that came out on latter FSR's

any corrections welcome.
once i get the exact dimensions will weld up some steel prototypes will fit to an old rockhopper frame to test
when all is well i'll get some detail drawings done
i'm still looking at casting as i hav'nt got a TIG welder

i think i measured the distance of the drilled hole to the dropout centre a while back, but cant remember who on here i sent the details to....
will have a think. it may be further back in this thread....

I'll only be able to measure mine when I get back to Wigan (where my bike is!).

Someone else may be able to get the measurement before I do (I have a 2000-model FSR with the hole)

Assuming you'll need angle too if the hole isn't centred over the dropout?

pretty sure the hole isnt centred over the dropout.
i know the chap i sent the measurements to, but i have since deleted the scan i sent him. have asked if he still has it.

otherwise, i may be able to get to my frame this weekend and measure it up.

OK have made 2 steel prototypes
one out of 3mm plate the other 5mm
all looks good
fits perfect on the rockhopper
there was a predrilled M5 hole for the packrack
on the stay centerline at 20mm from dropout,
seems to fit well
i wonder if the fsr's were 20mm, just need the confirmation

anyway here's a pic of what we need.....

looks awesome, the best i've seen so far

is very easy to make, should be able to be made from alloy just as easy
looking at a 2000 or 5000 series alloy, they don't need to be heat treated
will air cool to T4 which is plenty good enough
so can be easily welded
as long as you can get sombody with a TIG welder

the lengths some people go to, to get a fin

Pretty sure that predrilled hole is actually for the proper sharkfin anyway, my 99 Elite has one (it came with a sharkfin as standard but mine was missing when i bought the frame)

My 98 Gc frame does not have one.

Chain stay is wrong to be a '99, that is a '97 or '98 that has been drilled.

Looks like mine, but it's not.
