Retro Newbie
Hello,
I'm french and I don't know if there's a presentation procedure on this web site (I have not find it) so I'll do it here briefly. Sorry if it's not the correct way.
I'm 37 years old, married, and we have 15 months old twins...what a great fun !
I'm an aircraft mechanic (Airbus A320 family) and I like R/C aircrafts (giant scale especially), aviation (Warbirds !), motorbikes (Cafe Racers) and...and...MTB !
I just wanted to share few pictures of the "reborn" of my first "real" MTB I bought (thanks to my parents too) in September 1991.
Beast of the East series in 18" frame size with the VERY nice (and light) Pepperoni fork in 1" dia.
Hopefully, this grand'father ans his bone(s) is still in a very good shape.
It weights 11.7 kg (25.8 lbs) as it was.
Initially I wanted a new bike but after having read some posts on THIS forum, the idea of using the Cannondale SM800 frame was growing in my mind. This bike hasn't been used for years.
I don't want a "catalog replica" bike because it would take too much time and I really wanted to mix an old frame with actual components.
A severe pneumonia beginning of this year gave me some "free time" to choose my parts on the web, here they are :
Mavic 819 tubeless rims with XTR hubs (new but bought as "used")
Shimano Deore XT crankset
Shimano Deore XT brake levers
Shimano Deore XT V-brake 2012
Ritchey 60° stem (needs to be tested)
Ritchey carbon WCS bar
Hylix carbon seatpost and bar ends (to try this brand)
Italia Flite gel seat
Time X Roc S pedals
Sram X0 twisters
Sram X9 front and rear derailleurs (same word than in french !)
Schwalbe 2.35" Hans Dampf front tyre (tubeless)
Bontrager 2.20" XR4 rear tyre (used with an inner tube)
Pictures will follow as the only one I have has been taken with my phone and it's too ugly to show it...I should update my phone too !
I'll ride it this week-end
See you soon for pictures of the "Beast of the East"...
Sebastien
