i have a rather cheap but sensible RC Campervan (powered by 3 AA batteries) and a radio control (powered by 2 AA batteries).

when using indoors, it works to a distance of about 6-8metres.
when outside, it does over double that distance.

whats the reason for this massive difference in operating distances???

Probably electrical interference. Turn off the power in your home (the main fuse, breaker or whatever it's called in English) and try again.

Don't do that at night. You won't be able to steer safely. 'Mon the cheap but sensible toys!

Probably lots of reflection and absorption going on.
