Hi
I have picked up a set of deore thumbshifters but not used them in god knows how many years and i cant remember if there is any indexing on the front shifter ?

I am ready for the   etc etc !

Cheers Paul

It should have the black toggle on the shifter body pull it towards you makes it index push away makes it friction.

I had Deore thumbies back in the early 90's and the front was friction-only.

Rear had the indexing/friction switch.

Front has friction only, unless they changed it later on, I have several sets on several bikes including my touring Rockhopper.

The 'friction only' on the front means you get plenty of 'throw' to change rings but then you can back it off a little to prevent the chain rubbing on the mech.

The DuraAce front 'thumbies' are indexed but you can also back them off for the same reason
