Hello Retrowers. I have been meaning to make this thread for a while now, its about your camping biking holidays. Where is good where is not.

Post your pics. Bikes tracks tents funnies. Let us see them.

I bought a trailer tent a few month ago now and took it up Kielder a few weeks ago with my son and a friend. It was epic. The best holiday I have had. Weather was perfect not a fly to be seen as Kielder is supposed to be realy bad for them. We stopped at Kielder Camp Site. Many electric hook ups if needed. We fancied a few cans but the shop was shut so the caretaker phoned the shop and he opened up for us. Quality.

I spent a week touring The Lake District on my P7 last year, had a great time, lovely scenery some massive climbs but also some fantastic descents.

I just cycled around aimlessly and when I got tired I just found the nearest campsite for the night. One thing to watch out for if spending more than a could of nights camping is that finding somewhere to charge, GPS / Camera / Phone etc can be tricky, great if you want to be totally disconnected from the world but not so good if you want to record your trip. I'm going to be doing the C2C with the misses at the end of the summer but rather than camping we've decided to book hostels to a) keep the weight down b) give us a bit of comfort, surprisingly there's not much difference in price between some to the campsites and some of the hostels.

That looks very nice. The road sign isnt though unless you were coming down it. Where was this? I did the C2C about 13yr ago. One of the best things I ever done. My friend had a caravan near Kirby Steven so that was our stop point. Family and friend met us there for food. It was great. I am building my son his first full size and he wants to do it!!!

As for my camping I need a pitch for maybe 4 days to 2 weeks if all is good. I need somewhere to put base camp..

Me and the boy. And when you get there go to the bike shop and pick up a map. £1 well spent. The tracks are awesome.

almost 20 years ago, but took the '92 Eldridge Grade round the lakes in Northern Italy, rack on back with 2 mid sized panniers and one man Phoenix mountaineering tent, with a couple of mates all travelling pretty light. Flew into Milan with bikes and just cycled out of the airport and off to the lakes, tried to keep on Italian side as Switzerland was expensive, sadly all photos are old school printed and my scanner is dead so difficult to share

highly recommended but hard work with the "hills" so need to be in reasonable shape, couldn't do it now

The sign is at the bottom of Hardknott Pass and yes I rode up it!
