Retro Newbie
Hello everyone. Brand new to this forum and I look forward to everyone's advice. I was fortunate to acquire the frame from the guy I bought my mountain bike off of. This is my first time building a bike from scratch so it will be tough finding and deciding on which parts I need and which I like both cosmetically and functionality. I appreciate any and all ideas, helpful tips, and previous experience in building a bike similar to this one. I'm trying to keep it stock looking, as it would have been on the showroom floor in the 90's. My main dilemma I'm facing is which fork to go with. I've read bad things with the stock mag21 they came with and I'd love to go with an AMP or a Noleen, but they're so expensive! I'll be adding pictures and problems as i build the bike. Hopefully i get some experienced followers to help me along the way! :)

{ which in Britain is a visual way of saying very VERY nice indeed! }

By the way, what's the amount of travel?

I'm not too concerned on a huge amount of travel. I'd say anywhere from 80-120mm would be fine. This will be just a fun bike to putz around with. Just trying to keep it light.

I'd love to keep it an all American theme but I do like them! Lots of them on eBay in England. Only problem is I need a 1 1/4 inch steerer tube. Do they make some kind of collar so I can fit a smaller diameter steerer tube?

You can use a Chris king devolution headset if needed. takes 1 1/4 down to 1 1/8.. And keeps it American ;)

I was just reading about them. I should have bit my tongue and held off my post for five minutes. Thanks anyway! :)
