Love the way the BOTM banter is still going strong even after the poll has finished!
why not, as long as we are discussing with each other so heartily :)

I don't think Nader is a sore loser as such, he's just a vocal member of the silent majority who marvel at the way a certain number of people regularly bother to vote for 'a certain type of bike...'

Is that your opinion as an engineer? By certain type of bike are you referring to rare and cool?

Not for me to say, but nearly three times as many people didn't vote for the winner...

...and Nader just happens to have the bottle to be the little boy in 'The Kings New Clothes' ;)

Perhaps the voting method should be revised so that the top three go forward to a second vote to decide the actual winner; that way the result stands a fighting chance of being more representative of overall opinion?

I guess people may want different things from BOTM as a competition.

Personally, I like(d) the hidden poll and the results being unknown until it's closed - although there may not be any huge suprises, I can't help but think a certain sense of entitlement or group-think on an encouraging of an acceptable status quo leads to something I don't get any personal interest or joy out of, and seems to cause some tension or squabbles.

I just like the parade of nice bikes, and to pick one that personally appeals, then see the overall result. That it's different things to different people is no bad thing, from my perspective, but the hidden poll / vote seemed to discourage, or at least defer some resentment or dissatisfaction with the result.

:| Come on...

Entirely agree with Neil, tbh. The hidden poll works for me and means that I tend to vote for what I like rather than being tempted to go with the crowd.

For me BOTM is just about whatever bike I like the most out of what's available, for whatever reason. Sometimes bikes that are old or rare just don't do it for me - so much as I may like them I vote for something else. I suspect many other people are the same. It's like the retrobike movement as a whole really - we're all in it for different reasons: riders, builders, people who do both, those who just like collecting... although... I'm sick of being the pacifist - kill each other then there are more bikes for me (Stevo - leave me your Killi in your will ;) )

Another intriguing month, congrats to Falk on the win, the Ibis is doubtlessly a fine vintage bicycle.

Oh, and having read the past couple of pages it's good to see some discussion and banter. But now we're all (mostly) grown up let's try and stay away from name calling.
