Glasto

I didn't get that twinge.

Every Glastonbury I have been to involved copious quantities of substances and a large degree of madness.

45 and fully past any desire to go that way now. It was funny seeing all the old farts punching the air next to kiddies mashed up to the eyeballs.

Glastonbury changed when the dealers started to get methodical and the once a year hippies from the City became the majority.

Sure fun can still be had, we have attended a few festivals in the past few years and had a great time.

The vibe Glastonbury used to have up to the 90s can still be had in the smaller, less corporate festivals.

Taking nothing away from the joy others will be having, it is an event everyone should experience once at least.

Just not for me any more.

The Stones were excellent, but I like to be amongst other fans when I see my legends.

You can still have a decent, old style Glastonbury if you stay above or just below the railway line as a rule of thumb. Also a surprisingly large number of staff are the same every year. They would do the world a favour if they turned off the mobile signal across the site but then i seriously doubt alot of people would attend if they couldn't get a signal.

The big change came in the mid nineties, and I had been going for ten years at that point, as well as plenty other festivals.

You can't turn back time in that way. Yes, the green field and such have a more hippy vibe, but the whole alternative/hippy movement has become so commercialised and over organised there is no way you can be around that and have the same experience as when the majority were in it for the love.

I might take a van load to it in the next couple of years, but I would stay off site for once!

Gotta love it....9 years sporadically under my belt...the first in 1991 when I paid £63 for a weekend ticket! The next 6 years were un paid entry with various rope ladders and fence scaling involved and a bunch of narcotics! A break for a few years then 2003 and 2004 I was a paying guest! When I went in the early 90's it was quite an intimidating place a lot of robbing arseholes and dodgy drug peddlers, but the vibe was good and an overwhelming experience for the late teen that I was!...the latter years became a middle class students "right of passage"! I think some of the vibe has been lost over the years but perhaps thats just my age! I will go again...I now have a son who one day I would like to introduce to the festival because above all Glasto isn't just about the music...its the whole event the surrounding fields and the location in the heart of the countryside that set it aside from the likes of Reading/Leeds and the IOW etc...

...Micheal Eavis recognised this as he publicly encouraged the fence jumpers of the past to do that this year!

Still the best UK festival...

wookiee take your son to camp bestival, it has the glasto vibe and is very child friendly. maybe a little pricey though but worth it.

I can't imagine anywhere on Earth quite as horrific as Glastonbury. Weird hippies, middle aged nuggets and students who were last years school bully victims. Invariably shit weather, camping, warm beer, big queues, nasty toilets, women in wellies, people in band t-shirts, bad haircuts- what's is the attraction? Pensioners playing 40 year old guitar music? Alles naar de klote.

Nightmare in Rotterdam, Thunderdome, Defqon. These are proper events. Indoors, skinheads, Air Max, 200bpm gabber, cold drinks, hooliganism, lockers, nice hotels, wee Dutch rave sluts in bikinis. Early rave area for me please.
