Chainring bolt help!! (Middleburn RS7)

It wasn't short ones I used - just some others that were slightly less long. I looked at a short bolt, but only about 3 threads would engage with the spider, which is definitely too few.

I'd just file bolts down or take a quick trip to my LBS.

Turn the granny ring around so that the bolts don't fit in the recess but are flat with the outside of the granny ring. Assuming the chain will still engage properly.

Hmm, maybe that's it. I was using a steel (Shimano) inner. If it was an aluminium one it would have been thicker, even accounting for the shallow counterbore.

I'm using a steel inner (I think Shimano). That might be the problem... maybe designed for the thicker Middleburn alloy rings??

More than likely that. My RS7s have all Middleburn rings and there were no problems at all putting them together. Apart from trying to find the right sodding Loctite that is.
