one question - WHY?

Have a look at the video, it's for the rude boy dirt jumper kids to get their wicked tricks dialled before they try them on actual jumps and remove large quantities of flesh, blood and brains from themselves

 All makes sense now!

I wish I'd known about this years ago, could have practiced those tailwhips without crushing my nuts!

I've seen video of guys practicing jumping off a ramp into a lake. It looked like a lot of fun, but I suspect one might gain skills faster by using the trampoline method.

Another method I've heard about is to use a big pile of mulch for the "down ramp" of a jump. It wouldn't be as soft a crash-landing as landing in a lake, but it would be substantially softer than crash-landing on hard ground or pavement.

Then there are foam pits; basically a big dumpster filled with soft foam blocks that cushion your landing, but I'm sure those cost big bucks. Of course, in MY day, we didn't have those soft foam pits to land in...

In my day we had the sloping footpath at the top of Plumtree Avenue, some stolen breeze blocks and a plank. Oh and a purple Chopper.(from time to time)

Getting a bit 'Four Yorkshiremen' ;)

…and you try and tell the young people of today that, and they won’t believe you.

Travis Pastrana's foam pit cost about $40,000 ! Each 1' x 1' foam block is about a dollar.
As you have already said about helmets and foam pits; Never had them in my day either!

Cheers,
Andrew

Yeah, that's the exact one I was thinking about, although there are others. Google "Ray's Indoor Mountain Bike Park Foam Pit" to find some youtube videos.

Bah! Kids these days.... :x ;)
