TDF bikes

Thanks for posting.

Do I spot mudguard eyelets even in the late 60s? Pump pegs too; presume this means one bike was doing it all for training to racing. Clearly shows the absolute minute evolution of the road-bike - back to the 40s the form, function and gear is all easily recognizable by today's standards.

This explains why some of the bike portraits were clearly a different size from the action shots.

Still I spent more than a half hour on this one.

The bike that stood out for me was Gino Bartali's Legnano because it was the first to really look like a modern racing bike.
 
The Bartali bike is showing a Campagnolo sport single roller that is 1952 earliest. We know Bartali was using the cambio Corsa .

Several Simplex Tour de france gears upside down.

The Jean Robic bike would have been about 6 inches too big.

Interesting set though, see how much earlier the French were using Bowden cable brakes than us.
