92 Bear Valley SE Bottom Bracket

MarinMania

Retro Newbie
Guys,

I've just removed the BB from my old Marin... It's kind of a cartridge type but with what seems to be some adjustment on the non drive side, also the plastic cup is on the drive side which seems a bit odd. It's a shimano BB-CS20, spindle length is 123mm and seems to be symmetrically placed in the BB. The square tapers seem to be identical each side. If all that is the case, would I be safe in using a BB-UN26? I've read some threads that talk about non uniform spindles and Tapers....

yes, don't worry marin fitted those ones, occasionally the 'wrong' way too. any decent 122mm bb will be ok, UN26 also good. un26 will do the job but, look for a un fifty-something for longevity. just fit as normal, main body on crank side and cup on other side. just make sure you buy 'english thread'.

Any shimano UN something or suntour will be ok if you have jis/campag concerns(those are different taper-wise) even those RPM ones seem ok.
