1994 Kona Lava Dome

Re: 1994 Kona Lava Dome Project

Thank you!

Summarizing, first was analyze the original paint to get the same paint color. Then it was cleaned to check all welds. Next step was primer protection and for paint layers good adherence. After 2 thin layers of paint frame was heat treated at oven, very important to dry and to give strength to the color layers. Next step was the decals and finally the last layer of finish coat to protect paint, decals and overall frame surface. I do not remember brands cos it was at my summer home but I will verify next summer as there are some remaining paint and primer somewhere over there..

That frame was and is in perfect conditions.. after 18 years!

Re: 1994 Kona Lava Dome Project

That's a great job you did there. I like the neo retro build you did!
I was tempted to do the same with mine (see the link in my sig) but kept it pretty retro.

Just bought my third 94 lava dome. Awaiting delivery!
Have been inspired by your build. The paint job is the best match I have seen. It's a real distinctive colour which looks odd if it's not spot on, which yours is.
Would be interested to know the specifics about the paint job. I'll await your summer update.
Congrats on the build, I much prefer the updated version, it's looking awesome!
