It's 1991, the first year of 2nd generation Epic.
1990 was still a 1st generation model with steel lugs reaching almost half-way of the tubes and with U-brake under the chain stays.

This 2nd gen model was first used by Ned Overend and the Specialized team during 1990 race season (especially '90 Worlds!).

i've just been looking at your other stump jumper threads, i wondered about the front forks. they are quite slender at the hub end for "mountain" bikes, i wondered how durable they are?
