Just a few from the collection Nob? Plenty more where those came from I'll bet.

To answer Lewis, yes, in cycle sport terms TT'ing in the UK was and still is in many ways the mainstay of amateur racing as it is so easy to get into. No need for licences and all the UCI related paraphenalia. Just join a registered club and away you go. Generally there will be a local club event most weekday evenings - just turn up and ride. Several (many?) open events each weekend and midweek in summer which require pre-entry but a full field is 150 these days and it isn't often they are over subscribed (unless it's on a well known and super fast course) so plenty of chance to get racing through the season. And no need for a specialist bike until you really get into it. Anything on 2 wheels will do to start!

So I'm getting the picture that time trialing was/is big in the UK
not so much these days. The UK talent on the pro road scene has somewhat marginalised TTing (at least in our club). There's a bit of excitement if its a hilly TT, but the dual carriageway stuff seems to have taken a dive. Also, bodies like TLI and LVRC have helped you to get into road racing for minimal cost.

Back to Nob's photos, was the Derek Cottington one pre-Obree. if it was, then he deserves some credit for the odd positioning that we all thought Obree had devised.

I always found it somewhat sad that those UK testers were untouchable here, but failed at the olympics, worlds etc. Makes you wonder what they might have done with all todays team GB backup.

I think Obree and Boardmans hour records were as good as any Worlds / Olympics and of course Boardman went on to medal in Barcelona.

The UK TT scene is unique to the UK (pretty much).
