Scottish independence

I'm confident the referendum will show that to be untrue.

And if devo max was to be an option so should disbanding Holyrood be. That's the only way I'd get a proper vote. Otherwise we're just delaying the supposedly inevitable. The best thing that can come out of this is Salmond and Sturgeon to be roundly defeated and for it to be put on the back burner for a generation. At least until I'm too old to care.

Most Scots couldn't name an MSP if they had a week to think about it. I'd be surprised if more than 25% could even name their own. Sturgeon is mine- other than her and Salmond I'd have to go back to Dewar, McConnell, Sheridan or Canavan to think of anyone of any substance. So why would people who don't follow politics vote to hand complete control over to a rag tag bunch of ex teachers and social workers? A Mel Gibson film and a shit football team? Gies a brek.

Sooner this shite is over with the better imo.

Im enjoying the horror story propaganda being released by the English government and their buddies in the media.

Perhaps one of the amusing factors is that a very significant body of support for the SNP et al lies with English incomers. Free health care for the elderly and schooling for kids. Apparently, LOL

I'm Glaswegian, lived in London and the home counties aged 22 - 39, then moved back north because I chose to. No significant arguments for voting "Yes" have yet been presented to me, and I suspect they won't.

As for Farage, I wouldn't pee on him if he was on fire.

I find it incredible to imagine anyone not taking note of the investment of trust in the SNP after their overwhelming victory in the last election.

It clearly had less to do with their stated aim of campaigning for independence and offering a referendum than it it had to do with their good show on keeping the shop tidy during the previous term.

Scotland has long been socialist, and after New Labour and their Scottish counterparts the SNP were the only option if you were a Scotland resident wanting true socialism.

I agree we ought to have more questions being asked on the forthcoming ballot, and it is reasonable that disbandment of the Scottish Parliament could have been an option.

Let us not pretend that people are voting against independence because they don't want socialism though.

I strongly disagree that most Scots are as ignorant as you suggest. I reckon the people who don't know their MSPs would be unlikely to know their MPs or MEPs. Nothing to do with the Scottish Government, just ignorance.

I fully support 16 year olds voting too. A disproportionate number of laddies going into the armed forces and getting blown up for the UK are Scots.

Why the hell should they be disenfranchised?

So they're not ignorant because they don't know MSPs but are ignorant because they don't know MPs? I'm confused.

And it's not a government btw. It's the Scottish Executive in the Scotland Act and no amount of rebranding by Salmond is changing it. Governments do stuff like collect taxes rather than just spend grants from actual proper countries like the UK.

Not disagreeing there. But it just demonstrates more ignorance.

If Scotland had proper socialism I think we'd want out of it pretty sharply. Who's going to pay for it when we don't have London generating the wealth? I wouldn't want to bet my house on a few poxy windmills.

I disagree MOST Scots are ignorant. I then went on to comment on those who are ignorant.

The UK is not a country. Do some reading up.

If the UK had proper capitalism then I reckon the people of Scotland or anywhere else given the chance would back the hell out of it.

If you are so ignorant to think London generates 'all' the wealth then there is no point getting into it with you. There is no reason to believe that, in an independent Scotland, our own capital city would not benefit from less focus on London.

Statistics researched by institutions, including Westminster's own, demonstrate Scotland is producing sufficient wealth to support itself.

78% of people couldn't name their MP. That's most to me. And although it's not Scotland specific I can't see why that result would be reversed up here.

I didn't say London creates all the wealth, it's fairly obvious it doesn't. But it does have a GDP per capita twice that of Scotland. To think a wee town like Edinburgh is suddenly going to compete is wishful thinking.

I don't think Edinburgh would compete with London, but it would not need to.

I don't consider not knowing your MP as ignorance, as most don't even consider these things until they vote. I would imagine Scots are generally less ignorant than the mere 1000 odd people who were polled.

Ah, the wonderful Alex Salmond stoking the flames to feed his own notoriety. After all, he's the only man in the world who seems not to understand the conventions that govern national borders and territorial waters when licking his lips over 'Scottish' oil.

I say we let Scotland have It's independence. The rest of the UK can stop funding them at a level grossly disproportionate to their GDP, the Welsh can have the nuclear subs and the jobs that go with them, and Scotland can rely on men with blue painted faces who strangle cats for music to defend them, or to perhaps act as a tourist attraction.

At the risk of feeding the troll... what an excellent demonstration of exactly why I'll be voting for independence.

Sorry to pop this up again but an article in the Times the day before yesterday made me think some would appreciate it.

For a long time people like Mr Salmon have basically inferred Scotland wished it's independence and can largely be fund it through North Sea Oil and of course still taking money off the rest off the U.K. whilst claiming to be independent.

Recently the Island collective including the Shetlands, Western Isles, Orkneys etc have said that should the independence go through then they would seek the same independence from Scotland that the Falkland Islands have from the U.K. and they the islands collective, would now control the oil and it's revenues as it is in their waters. That's a poke in the eye for Mr Salmon and rather would leave him in a difficult situation.
