Here goes, I need a new spring for my Lyrik but they're all out of the one I need in the UK.
I've ordered the one I need from Canada but that's clearly not going to get here for Friday when I'm doing an uplift day!!!!!
A local company to me does coil springs but they need to know the spring rate
My question - how do I find out what spring rate the springs are? As firm, medium etc tells me nothing.
I need extra firm.

First person to find me the info gets some Karma in the form of something retro.
Help a lad out!

To find the rate of a spring you can do this -

Measure the free length of the spring.
Cut a piece of dowel 1" shorter than that dimension.
Put the dowel inside the spring and put the spring standing on end on reasonably accurate bathroom scales, put a small square piece of wood on top of the spring - zero the scales.
Press the wood down, compressing the spring until the wood is just about to touch the dowel.
Note the reading on the scale, convert to lbs. and that's the rate of your spring in pounds/inch.

This is for a linear rate spring.
