Hmm downtube cable stops look nothing like a Specilized i can think of - but the dropouts and chainstays do look 92/93 esque. a strange one.

Agreed, it looks similar to my 1992 M2 apart from around the top of the down tube.

with just the one poor picture it's hard to make it out

it could be an early MMC one - the non replaceable gear hanger points to that but he's saying m4 which i doubt.
