Catalogue builders v Hot Rodders...

(says in droning voice) "actually in the second half of 1992 Marin switched chain suppliers for the Eldridge to Tah Cheng and I couldn't help but notice that the date code of your frame is for September. So a KMC chain is wrong."

Provided you ride it, then it doesn't matter. The critics will never notice as they will be in their garages polishing their bikes. Taking them out risks UV damage to the paintwork.

^^^^^ THIS ^^^^^

Puts it perfectly.

Fit a set of period maguras with the thumbies.

Win-Win.

The Cantis on my 93 Fire mountain were *Dire* (mainly the levers) I couldn't face putting V brakes on it, but Maguras look bang on!

So does this mean my SRAM V brakes on my bear valley se make me persona non grata ?

I had given this some thought too, and my solution on my Dyna-tech Diablo was to fit a pair of modern TRP cantilever brakes rather than go to V's as I find the redundant brake hanger on the rear galling
