1988 Tufftrax - very good example now I tightened the loose bearings and freed off rhe ones that were too tight.

Seat post is absolutely fine but it is not mint - the seat is ropey and the paint is a bit scratched as you may expect for a bike of this age. My 89 looks mint by comparison !
It did however come with a brand new Miichelin Wild front gripper, Tioga rear and a Tioga T bone. And a working Avocet speedo. Great to ride too.

I can't think of a better way to spend £25.

I just picked up a set of wheels for my Rufftrax. Mavic rims, Deore rear hub, Shimano dynohub front, £25 from eBay from a guy who got them in a house clearance!

I had one of these in 1989 that i'd swapped a Muddy Fox Explorer for only to discover the seat stem had siezed up but that wasn't a problem and then i sold it for £35 to a work college who got the sack 2 days after i'd let him have it and he hadn't paid a penny for it  but if that wasn't bad enough i didn't know where he lived and the boss said he couldn't give that information out so i lost the bike and the money   ..

I also had a Tufftrax in 1995 which i sold so i could get a Schwinn sweet spot in 1997 and discovered i
i was happier when i had the Tufftrax but that was six after it had gone  ..

Thats an '87 in the picture, one sold recently on ebay at a bargain price, in yellow. The 88 one had a wishbone rear stay but we dont seem to have catalogue pics of that, and then the 89 one had seat stay mounted U brake not the lower chainstay mount, and graphics changed for the 89 models.

I know that's an 87 as that's what mine was and yes mine was in the maize yellow as well and i just loved the way those u-brakes felt on the chainstays when you apply the brake lever  .

I'd give my left arm just for a quick ride on one nowadays  ..

I ride mine (88xt version) nearly every day! The UU version I have is not allowed out in mud!
