Wouldnt mind a picture because i am also somewhat confused by this
The headtube spacers as you call them could be confused with steerer spacers, thats kind of how its coming across. To me at least.

Or do you mean that the headtube on the frame is 1 1/8" and the CONVERTER rings are bonded in :?

I will post a picture tonight before I do anything!

The headset cups sit (did) inside the rings affectively allowing the use of a 1" headset in place of a standard 1 1/8" - At least that is that I assume is going on.

Thanks

Dan

So your changing to 1.1/8" forks?

Yes thats right, however i have a 1" or 1 1/8" steerer for the forks, its more the headset change from a 1" headset to a 1 1/8".

If you have the choice of steerers why dont you save yourself a load of hassle and buy a new 1 inch headset?

I could buy a 1" headset however i already have a good 1 1/8 one.

If the shims are not stock them i think they should cut out fairly easy.

I guess what I really wanted to confirm is that the head tube is 1 1/8 and shims can be removed.

Well, i made myself a headset remover tool out of a bit of old pipe, two knocks and they fell out!

I'm not sure what the local bike shop was having a problem with as they almost fell out for me.

New headset is in so everything is sorted :)

Thanks for all the advise

Dan
