I was wondering, I have a lovely set of Phil Wood hubs on Campag Atek rims, the rear hub takes a freewheel, and I'm not familiar with different screw on freewheels.
What would be the Shimano XTR or Goldtec or other top of the range of lightweight freewheels which would suit the Phil hub and which would be Shimano XT Thumbies and rear mech compatible?
Any ideas?

Either retro or present.
One which doesn't weigh a ton. And is very high quality

And can one use any freewheel with a 7 sp XT thumbie and mech? Eg a Campag

Well anything around the 390g or less mark rather than the usual 500g for a freewheel would do.

Regina were always the gold standard IME, with Sachs a close second. However, freewheels were largely in road sizes at that time. If you are really lucky you could get the separate cogs to build up your own, which was common at the time.

Any modern stuff is trash designed for £69.99 Argos tat.

Really, I think it is Shimano, Sunrace or IRD to choose from for current ones.
Suntour and Sachs if you can find older ones.
There where ALU cog versions made Microlite for example, but not sure if that was for road ratios only.
