1959 Holdsworth Hurricane

Holdsworthy made pretty decent frames, on a sort of production line basis, mostly standard designs.
"Il Primo Milano" was was just an invented name, certainly not Italian, the chrome was too good. We used to chop up damaged stuff to see how it was made, and the "Il Primo" forward extension tube was hollow, but only just.
In those days when the steel handlebar stem was bent over hitting the road, if it was only about an inch we would just give it a tug.
We had to be practical.

Found a code on the chainring: ZA, or 1960!

Curious, as the Hurricane was only available as a single speed up to 1959 and this looks to have been that way from the off.

Keith: what you say about the quality of the Il Primo stems well may explain the later (mid-Seventies according the Shaun), replacement stem.

Thanks for the heads-up Robbie, but the catalogue shows they had a B15 Swallow, so I'll stick with one of those.
