A good primer with Zinc in it is supposed to help prevent rust.

I've used some rust killer and primer from Bilt-Hamber, seems to be good, but only time will tell.

I'll post an update in 5 years time ;)
 
Thanks for the info - do you think 5 years is long enough to test it? I await an update patiently!!
