How can I tell if I need to replace my Bomber seals?

Just stripped down my first pair of '98 Z4 Bombers, the oil was a pretty grim and grey. No idea when they had last been serviced, if ever!

Is there any way of knowing if they need new seals?
The stanchions had been clean and seemed to hold pressure before I stripped 'em.

Have you taken the seals off? If they've been taken off they have to be replaced apparently. Those ones have 30mm stanchions and there's still plenty of seal kits available if you want to change them but unless they're leaking oil and/or visibly cracking I'd be inclined to leave them be. I've got some Marzocchis of a similar vintage that are still going strong on their original seals for what is worth. Ymmv.

As you have the forks stripped I'd be fitting a set of Enduro seals if I was you.

Thanks for the advise. As I have the forks stripped down and don't know their providence I've plumed for some new Enduro seals from the US.
