No Konas in the MOMBAT collection?

Why are you defending how good Kona's are to you and how they where cheap bikes compare to others

Art and Technology is what MOMBAT is and then to what FirstFlight probably thinks and chances upon. If you send him an early hot or first gen Explosif then you never know it might be stuck on the wall.
Just PM him and ask him as he is a member if this site.
The rest are just having some light hearted fun ;-)

I'd say the lack of Brodie or Rocky (or at least a relevant one) is a bigger omission. These were the blue prints for hardtails to come (including Kona) and are way more relevant than a lot of the 'crafted but crap' bikes on that site. I enjoy the site though if for no other reason but to look at the incredibly badly designed early full suspension bikes from companies that had too much money to come up with such monstrosities (hello Trek and Cannondale!).

I don't think the FF guys seek out bikes for their collection, most of the bikes they own found them. Like others have stated, the early days of Kona in the US happened in the NW so not many are floating around the sticks of NC. Great company with a cool history.

Do you see me trying to change it? I fully understand that people like other and/or more mainstream bikes. Nothing wrong with that at all. I like my Stumpjumper. The question asked....is why isn't the Kona in the MOMBAT museum. I gave an answer...you just don't like it.

That doesn't mean anything. Whichever manufacturer pays the magazine the most gets the bike of the year. It was definitely not pitted against other superior bikes.

I think the answer was in the opening post.

The MOMBAT collection is only about 300 strong, which isn't a huge number considering the vast number of brands and models that there are out there. It's not surprising that many brands aren't well represented or are not there at all. As and if the collection expands then this may not always be the case.

I don't think that the current omission should be taken as a comment on the Kona brand at all and I certainly don't think that it should be used as an excuse to have a spat on the interweb.

According to some people on here everyone might as well set light to their classic Minis, MK1 Escorts, MGBs, 6cyl Mustangs and whatever other great fun practical classics, because if it isn't an Aston DB5, Ferrari 250GTO or Lamborghini Miura it isn't worth garage space. If that is your reading of what took place in this thread then you are probably better off sticking with a Kona.
