I completely agree, but sadly seem few and far between, is there a list of any that is a sticky so we can find and help keep in business ?

This would be a great idea in my opinion, i would gladly drive a few more miles to buy my parts from one :)

Headset bearings are basic service items. I cannot comprehend why a shop that sell and repair bikes would'nt keep any. The damn things are still in bikes up to 400 quid so why not keep a card of such a basic item? (They arrive packaged the same as dry roasted in the pub except there's no bird revealed).

Never had any problems with Evans myself, but have never tried to buy "specialist" items from there.

If you need bearings, don't bother with cycle stores online or anywhere else, go to an online bearing seller, just google for them.

I bought bearings for both front and back hubs, grade 10 hardened steel, 50 in a pack, for bugger all!

For Mavic 501 or Sachs cartridge bearings, RS (yup, the electronics people) have been a good bet in the past. Incidentally if anyone knows of a good source of spare Stronglight/
Miche conical roller bearing races for A9, Primato, etc. headsets, I'm all ears (but not in the Lineker sense).

Not one person has considered they may have sold out? (irony)

Having recently bought a set of headset bearings for a BSO, my LBS warned me there are so many different cages that aren't interchangeable that they struggle to always have the right ones and try to steer people to fitting loose balls instead.

i have only dealt with them once,i ordered a pair of shimano mountain bike shoes in a size 45. they where out of stock so they sent me a pair of 48,s .complete idiots, will never use them again

I wonder what percentage of bicycle owners actually have the skills/tools/wherewithal to change their headset bearings? I'm guessing that its so small that its not worth Evans stocking the items.

"I wouldnt describe a headset bearing as 'a part of yesteryear' when every bike sold for under £200 still uses them" OK, but given that Evans don't sell many (if any, I've not looked) bikes for less than £200, I fail to see whay they should stock a service item for them.

If you want spares for old school bikes, go to an old school bike shop. If you want spares for cheap bikes, go to Halfords (who incidentally have a great range of small spares such as bearings, caged or otherwise).

Frankly bollocks, on several levels.

I remeber way back in 2003 trying to buy an item off them - a £90 USE alien seatpost the effort (and i mean effort) of doing so was pretty exhausting.

A large shop in central London empty (of peoples) bar me and one other customer and 3 or 4 staff and it still took 30 minutes to complete a 5 minute (if you stretch it) transaction. And that was my last experience of them

Your nearest and best is probably Liphook cycles.
