I have got the MAFAC to work!!!!! I think!
I have had to buy ( and I am not joking ) a cordless drill and some carborundium drill grinding stones/ wheels. I have ground the "wrong" end down until it fits, and it seems to work. However, the cable that conmes with the MAFAC isn't long enough!! So, I have had to buy a canti cable from Halfords that is way too long and trim it down. It looks okay, not perfect, but the bike is not gonna be a show bike. I intend this one to be a user. Will send some photos.
The worst thing is my father in law has an immaculate 96 Muni Mula that has only ever been used a dozen times or so, and all on the canal towpath.But he "wants" it.

cant you just use a srew and pinch the cable with two bolts ?
cut one end of the screw and a bolt on each side . was gonna do that untill I bought yours .
