Cleaning nasty grips

Just curious if anybody has tips on cleaning old and grimy grips?

I've used warm soapy water and scrubbed the nasty off, but would running through a dishwasher work or would it melt them?

Of course a new set would be ideal but I like to use what I have when possible.

Thanks!

Soaking in warm soapy water sounds like a good idea.

When I mean grimy I mean the black sticky stuff that you can really see on colored grips.

Make a paste of neat fairy liquid and neat bleach - scrub / leave 5 mins / scrub / leave 5 mins etc

+1 Fairy liquid.
I had a bike which came with white grips which were caked.
Came up good as new with a soak and some scrubbing with a kitchen brush.

Yeah I guess so, for hand washing pots - fairy is generally accepted as being the best / strongest / most degreasing of the UK brands but I guess most quality makes would do the same job :D

Use a thick bleach rather than one of the very watery ones :D
