1936 Colson frameset, headbadge.
The rest:
Vintage Wald Aero stem.
8 speed Shimano Nexus with roller brake.
Vintage Sturmey Archer front brake.
Brooks B66 saddle.
YST BB.
Vintage Apex Crankset.
Lots of messing around to make everything work, that was the fun part. And my first paint job,
pearl black with dark green pearl darts.

Two cross bars on a nornal diamond frame would be for strength. Those two curved cross bars seem to be for style not strength, it just looks good :cool:

Yes, these bikes are heavy, but weight is not my main issue. If I want a purpose built mountain bike with many more speeds, I will have to buy one for sure. For now this suits me well, it's good on trail and road, and I built it for the look I like. I lived in San Anselmo during the 70's, and walked up Humboldt to get to Spruce where I lived, and I always liked the bikes they were building there.
