NEEDLE ROLLER BEARINGS FOR PROFLEX XP-X FRAME

O.K. here we go ,the main reason for changing the rear arm on a PROFLEX XP-X FRAME is that if the two pivot axle (left and right )are not done up tight enough ,the pivot axles will move ,making the counter bores in the frame out of round ,as in the second set of pics, (not too clear )

This is shown in the black marks on the frame ,plus the axle pivot will move around in the counter bore in the frame and not a firm fit .
The nexst two pics are the original parts ,there will be marks on all mating faces (frame and pivot)

One answer i think is to make two new pivot axles and use two needle roller bearings ( 4900 2rs, 22mm od X 14mmID X 13mm long ,£9-£20 each )

and yes i am lucky enough to have a small lathe and mill at home .

there is a proflex riders forum...... that I see someone of the same user name has posted about needle bearing so I guess you know about that.

if you have the time, you may wish to consider making the parts - I am sure there will be buyers for this conversion.


incidentally as you have a mil and lathe, have you considered making a disc brake adapter to bolt on to the swingarm? I had one made up but my design could be improved.

I have already started on that project on the disc brake adapter ,but it will be welded to the rear arm, and yes tis i on the proflex site , but you guys seen quicker off the mark .

a welded adapter is best .... but for those wanting to revert to v-brakes or not wanting to repaint the swingarm or not removing the label that must never be removed, there is this:

it uses a bearing where it bolts to the stays to allow movement between the parts but that bit needs to be redesigned - it is made up from 3 pieces of alloy held together by bolts, again that can be improved by machining it from a single piece.

Yes ive looked at your brake adapter before ( nice job ) and its given me ideas ,no not again , but if the adapter does not work the VEE brake posts are still there .

I like the bolt on version - no stripping down or welding and therfore no potential issues from the heat applied to the swingarm
