Fork Options

First would like to say Hi to all as this is my first post.

I have just bought a 1998/1999 Specialized Rock Hopper FS.

In real nice condition, only fault is the forks are worn and not smooth. It's quite rideable but feels lumpy.
What are my options with these forks? They are Rock Shox Jett T2's.

Would replacement forks be 1" 1/8th size?
Would it be easier just to replace with something similar.

Personally I would replace with something better. They are a pretty standard fork and yours should have a 1 1/8 steerer so plenty of options out there.

If you want to keep it retro Marzocchi bombers are the best functioning most reliable period correct fork out there, Z1's had 100mm of travel which is quite a lot, older Z2's had 63mm which is fine for taking the edges off, later Z2's & Z3's had 80mm travel which is a good balance.

Marzocchi bombers around 80mm travel would be my recommendation

Depends on your budget really. I think I saw a set of the marzocchi bombers mentioned above for sale on here for about £40 which is good imho. These forks are heavier than other options such as rock shox Judy or SID. You could also go for a manitou fork, but I know very little about these I'm afraid.

People hav said that RST mozo pro forks are very good and are generally available very cheaply too.

As I said before, your budget will determine what's viable, your weight might too a some forks are known for being 'flexy' such as the SID.

Handsome forks those. But really Z1's will takeover your bike in terms of how it rides, loads of lovely suspension going up and down as you climb hills, try these (air sprung) so you'll need a pump, and be warned the steerer is quite short:

Just give the Jetts a service, not to hard. Probably just some bits gone a bit dry and needs some fresh grease.
Just check if the black Anodising has worn away from around the seals.
Still many mentioned are better forks.

Manuals are on SRAM website.

You'll also want to be in the 98+ section, you're currently in the older bike section.
They are 1999 Jett T2's and original to the bike, which is the 1999 model as you say.
